miscarriage #3 my story

I wanted to share my story with you. On Oct 10th 2011 I got pregnant for the 3rd time. It was the day I left MV for the season Many of you know that I had had 2 prior miscarriages and was very excited to be pregnant for the 3rd time, this time felt different. I believed it was very strong- by my 11th week we started feeling very confident told many new friends in our neighborhood and started thinking of girls names as everyone kept saying "its a girl" up until yesterday it was a picture perfect pregnancy other then the freak out about weight gain I was healthy happy no morning sickness, eating super well no caffeine all the right stuff.

Yesterday afternoon I noticed some spotting brown at first(no big deal the internet says by all accounts) I am living where the hospital is an hours drive. by around 9pm cramping started-scary but not enough to goto the hospital yet. then at 2am blood gushing cramping like the end of the world was coming and it was the end of my world. We rushed to the ER (1hours drive) in the car i actually gave birth in my own hands to a tiny baby and placenta the pain was unbearable my heart was breaking and so was my body-the contractions were more pain then i have ever felt. By the time we got to the hospital where very few speak english the doctor said it was emergency D&C time and it may have been twins. I can't tell you the sadness i felt and feel now. they knocked me out did the procedure and within a couple of hours we were back on the road heading home. Thats it No Baby.

Heartbroken. I can only ask God why? why me?why this baby or babies? it would have been our first. This miscarriage has been the scariest worst thing I could even imagine ,The doctor said it may have been twins, and as I write this only hours later i find myself angry.sad.bewildered.and in disbelief. I now have to face the happy smiling faces that will be asking how i feel and when I am due for the next few weeks and that makes me want to never leave the house. I thankfully didnt announce our baby to all my friends up north ,but was only 2 days from 12 weeks when they say its "safe" I write this blog to help to share and to tell my story. I am healthy and happy-I have done everything I know how to do to make a healthy baby and yet I have had 3 miscarriages. WHY??? because they happen, for so many reasons. I just cant wrap my head around any of this, its like i am in a bad dream....... Please feel free to reach out to me with your experiences or stories-Thanks for reading! XO Nisa

7 Reasons Kale Is the New Beef

Like the saying goes, the only constant is change. We may resist it all we want, but Time and its inevitable evolution of everything in its path is unaffected by our attempts to stop it. The resulting trajectory of humanity's nascent ascent appears to be positioning itself to sweep us into progressive new times, especially where our food choices are concerned, as nearly 7 billion people are now standing on the little scraps of land that we share with some 55 billion rather large animals raised for food each year. (As another famous saying goes: This town ain't big enough for the both of us.) So, beef (and all factory-farmed meat) may be going from rib-eye to relic as we transition to a greener world… literally—as in leafy, green vegetables.

Environmentalists cite meat production as one of the biggest contributors to global warming, and the USDA's new food pyramid (MyPlate) suggests the healthiest choice is making vegetables and fruit the biggest part of every meal by reducing consumption of animal proteins. Kale is far more nutritious than other leafy green, but these seven reasons why it is such an important futurefood may just surprise you.

1. Anti-inflammatory: Inflammation is the number one cause of arthritis, heart disease and a number of autoimmune diseases, and is triggered by the consumption of animal products. Kale is an incredibly effective anti-inflammatory food, potentially preventing and even reversing these illnesses.

2. Iron: Despite the myth that vegetarians are anemic, the number of non-vegetarians with iron-deficiencies is on the rise. Per calorie, kale has more iron than beef.

3. Calcium: Dairy and beef both contain calcium, but the U.S. still has some of the highest rates of bone loss and osteoporosis in the world. Kale contains more calcium per calorie than milk (90 grams per serving) and is also better absorbed by the body than dairy.

4. Fiber: Like protein, fiber is a macronutrient, which means we need it every day. But many Americans don't eat nearly enough and the deficiency is linked to heart disease, digestive disorders and cancer. Protein-rich foods, like meat, contain little to no fiber. One serving of kale not only contains 5 percent of the recommended daily intake of fiber, but it also provides 2 grams of protein.

5. Omega fatty acids: Healthy fats play an important role in our health, unlike the saturated fats in meat. A serving of kale contains 121 mg of omega-3 fatty acids and 92.4 mg of omega-6 fatty acids.

6. Immunity: Superbugs and bacteria are a serious risk to our health. Many of these come as a result of factory farm meat, eggs and dairy products. Kale is an incredibly rich source of immune-boosting carotenoid and flavanoid antioxidants, as well as vitamins A and C.

7. Sustainable: Kale grows to maturity in 55 to 60 days versus a cow raised for beef for an average of 18-24 months. Kale can grow in most climates and is relatively easy to grow at home or on a farm. To raise one pound of beef requires 16 pounds of grain, 11 times as much fossil fuel and more than 2,400 gallons of water.

"Working out with Nisa is such a fun, challenging experience. I have spent the last five summers taking her bootcamp classes on Martha's Vineyard, and the results are always amazing. This summer I lost 9 inches, increased my endurance, and was able to run my first road race; I feel stronger than I have in years. The workouts are hard, early in the morning, and you will be sore, but the encouragement that you receive from Nisa and the other women in the class make it an energizing, great way to start your day. Nisa knows her craft, and truly cares about the individual health and success of her clients. I highly recommend this workout!"

Farmers Markets and Local Produce:

Time to go out and explore your community! With so many local farms growing fresh produce, a trip to your local farmers market is simply a must this time of year. You cant get fresher than a tomato that just got picked. Not only is it a fun way to try out new fruits and veggies, but you are supporting your local community and economy as well.

If you are new to a certain area ask the locals where the farmers market is located. Chances are they frequent the market quite often and can give you some advice on which vendor has the juiciest strawberries or the best zucchini. We reccomend: Whippoorwhill Farm.

Whippoorwill Farm has been producing quality vegetables for Island residents for over twenty years. We grow all our crops without synthetic fertilizers or chemicals. As our business has evolved over the years, we have supplied restaurants, super markets, farmers' markets, a farm stand and our CSA members. Currently, our main focus is on serving our CSA members. We would love to have your support and input as a new member of our CSA program.

Or Try The West Tisburys Farmers Market:

West Tisbury's Farmers Market.

Take the kids! Making a special trip the farmers market can be exciting for the entire family! Who knew that there could be excitement about fruits and vegetables? Most vendors even have samples out for you to try their produce. Who doesnt love free samples? This is a great way for kids to try and eat. Once you visit your local farmers market it will be quite tempting to buy everything in sight. Before you go you should have a plan as to what you may need to create some fresh meals for that week. You dont want to buy too much produce and have it spoil. But, if you can have a list of meals for the week that are already planned out, you already know what and how much you need. No matter what meals you choose to make that week, you can never eat enough fresh salad, so go ahead and splurge if you find a nice selection of various lettuces. Not only will your intake of fruits and veggies increase when frequenting your local farmers market, you help the local farmers and help your community grow and prosper. Eat Healthy. Eat Fresh. Eat Local.
